蠵龟又名蟕蠵、灵龟、蠵、灵蟕、赤蠵龟、红海龟，体长100-120cm。头较大，宽约25cm。上、下颌均具极强的钩状喙。头部背面具有对称的鳞片，前额鳞2对，幼体背部具3条强棱，成体背部无棱。背部表面覆以角板或称角质盾片，呈平铺状排列，颈角板1块短宽，椎角板6块；第6块最大。肋角板每侧5或6块，第1块最小；第3、4块最大。缘角板每侧11块。臀角板1对较缘角板大。背甲后缘略呈锯齿状，腹甲较平坦，每侧甲桥处有下缘角板3块。外层的角板沿中线两侧成对排列着较小的喉角板、肱角板、胸角板依次渐宽；腹角板、股角板、肛角板依次渐狭。四肢扁平呈鳍足状；前肢大，后肢小，内侧各有2爪，长成后或具1爪。尾短。背部棕红色或褐红色，有不规则的土黄色或褐色斑纹，腹部柠檬黄色或黄色。生长环境

It inhabits the warm and tropical oceans and feeds on fish, shrimp, crabs, and mollusks.
